Scoville Heat Units (SHU) measures the effectiveness of a self defense spray. Oleoresin Capsicum is where the potency or hotness of the pepper sprays. Most pepper sprays have 2 million (SHU) where a jalapeno pepper only has a 5000 (SHU).
